The Memorial Library

Opening day is Monday, June 23. The Memorial Library building is located in Furber Park across the street from the Ocean Park Soda Fountain. Carolyn BarstowCarolyn Barstow, an English teacher in Scarborough, Maine, is in her 35th year as librarian. Current children’s and adult books, as well as newspapers, are available. The library is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 to 9:00 pm; Saturdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm; closed all day Wednesday and Sunday.

Library rates per family are as follows:
$15/season, $10/month, $5/week for non-OPA members. Use of the Library is free for OPA members. For more information call 934-1853.

The Tails to Read children’s program is at the Library every Tuesday, 5:00 to 6:00 pm, July 1 to August 26. The program is designed to give children the opportunity to read aloud to an attentive, patient and non-threatening audience – Gracie and Jasper, certified Therapy Dogs. They will be returning this summer with their human Therapy Partners Carol and Peg. Children will need to sign up at the Library on the Monday before each Tuesday session. Children will have 10 minutes of 1-on-1 time with the dog of their choice (and its human partner). Children should choose a book before their appointment. Improve your reading skills and confidence by reading a tale to someone with a tail! Furry hugs and kisses for all of our readers!

The Story Hour is every Thursday, 4:30 to 5:00 pm, July 3 to August 28. Volunteers from the community read stories to children in the children’s section of the Memorial Library. Volunteer readers will be assigned and coordinated by Rosemary Salisbury, (603) 431-4952. Contact Carolyn Barstow for more information, 934-1853.
