Meet the Editor and Special Guest

Sambuchino
Chuck Sambuchino is the editor of Guide to Literary Agents and the assistant editor of Writer's Market (both Writer's Digest Books). He is a former staffer of several newspapers and magazines--most notably Writer's Digest. He is a produced playwright, with both original and commissioned works produced. Also, Chuck is a freelance editor, award-winning journalist and public speaker. He is a magazine freelancer, with recent articles appearing in Watercolor Magic, Pennsylvania Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine, and New Mexico Magazine.

 

 

Some of this year's presenters:

Masha Hamilton
Masha Hamilton the author of three crtically acclaimed novels, most recently The Camel Bookmobile and will conduct a fiction workshop at the conference. She has been a foreign correspondent in the Middle East and Moscow. Masha currently teaches at the Gotham Writers’ Workshop in NYC. Having spent years in the Middle East and Moscow, Masha traveled to Kenya in 2006 to research The Camel Bookmobile. She is also the author of two other novels: Staircase of a Thousand Stars and The Distance Between Us.

 

 

MCWhiteMichael C. White teaches at Fairfield University and is on the faculty of USM’s Stonecoast MFA program.

The author of four other novels, Michael C. White’s fifth novel, Soul Catcher, will be published in September. He will discuss the role of research in the framing of a historical novel.

 

 

TMaguire


Tom Maguire is an Irish playwright, bodhranplayer, and whiskey tenor.He will lead a workshop on scriptwriting. Two of his  plays, Faces to the Rain and The Providence Plays, have been staged off-Broadway. Tom will also provide some traditional Irish music on Tuesday evening.

 

Kimberly Cloutier-Green

Kimberly Cloutier-Green teaches nonfiction and poetry at the University of New Hampshire and was selected for the Portsmouth Poet Laureate Voice & Vision Program. She will be presenting a workshop entitled, "Pushing the Envelope: Writing the Prose Poem". She was a winner of The Aldrich Poetry Prize, and the  Dick Shea Memorial Award. Most recently, Kimberly was selected for the Maine Community Foundation’s Martin Dibner Fellowship in Poetry, 2005.

 

 

Caroline Megan

Carolyn Megan's essays and short stories have appeared in several publications and anthologies including The New York Times, Boston College Magazine, MS., The Massachusetts Review, Crab Orchard Review, and The Kenyon Review. Her essay "Something Like Motherhood" is included in the 2007 anthology Modern Love: 50 True and Extraordinary Tales of Desire, Deceit and Devotion. She lives in Maine where she teaches writing at Colby College.

Have you always wanted to write? Do you need the support of fellow writers? Are you looking for inspiration (a visit from the Muse)?

Why not plan to attend the 67th Writers Conference at Ocean Park, Maine? Registration and social with light refreshments begin at 5:30pm on Monday, August 13.

Bring a piece (3 minute limit-any material not entered in any conference contest) to share in an open-mic at 7:00pm. Workshops start at 8:30am on Tuesday and continue through Friday until 1 pm. The conference fee of $175 is discounted to $160 if sent prior to July 1. A food social (included in the conference fee) is planned for Tuesday evening with entertainment following. Poetry writing on the beach is a Thursday morning event followed by breakfast at the library. There are also several writing contests both in poetry and prose which participants are eligible to enter. Cash prizes will be awarded on Friday.
