Ocean Park Music Festival

more than a day at the beach...music for the heart and soul

Good music and good entertainment have been a tradition at Ocean Park for many years. We are pleased to honor and continue that tradition with an annual series of concerts featuring a wide variety of artists and instruments. All concerts are held in the Temple on Sunday evening, beginning at 7:30. Admission is $10 per ticket. Two kinds of discounted tickets are available: Any 4 concerts for $32, and all 8 concerts for $60. Tickets may be purchased at the Ocean Park Association office and may be used by anyone at any of the concerts.

July 8 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 1. Ashley Liberty, violinist, and Daniel Strange, jazz pianist, will have been married for eight days when they appear on the Temple stage! They specifically asked to come back for this occasion after Ashley’s spectacular success last summer as this is a great venue for their wedding guests to come see them for the first time together. Both Ashley and Daniel are Maine folks, but both have made their mark on audiences around this country (including New York!) and abroad. Their program will consist of merging multiple genres, producing fresh versions of the classics and putting a new spin on recent musical history. What a way to start the OPMF season! Tickets: $10.00.

July 15 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 2. PORTopera has been producing summer opera in Maine since 1995 and their singers have made appearances on the Temple stage every year of their existence! This summer, enjoy Maine’s Emerging Artists, the talented up and coming performers of tomorrow, as they present two one-act operas by Franz Joseph Haydn: La Canterina (The Diva) and Lo Speziale (The Apothecary). Under the direction of USM’s Ellen Chickering and accompanied by Aaron Robinson, this promises to be an unforgettable evening of fine opera. Tickets: $10.00.

July 22 -7:30 pm Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple, Concert 3: It’s been a while since the Seacoast Wind Ensemble has performed at the Temple, but their past visits were memorable as this southern Maine concert band never fails to present the best of band programming. The ensemble will present a typical down home, Sunday evening, family oriented series of toe-tapping pieces designed to start your rhythmic juices flowing and activate your nostalgia for pleasant times past. If you’ve never heard a finely tuned 50-piece concert band at the Temple, don’t miss this chance! Tickets: $10.00.

July 29 - 7:30 pm Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 4. Vivian Choi, classical pianist, is a native of Korea, has studied in Moscow and Australia, and now attends the New England Conservatory. She recently performed at Noonday Concerts in Portland under the auspices of the Portland Conservatory, and literally brought down the house with a program that astounded her listeners. Vivian may be a relatively young person, but she has the power and artistry of a mature pianist twice her age. Tickets: $10.00.

August 5 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 5. “A Summer’s Gallimaufry: Musical Magic with Friends and Family” featuring the Temple Choir and guest soloists, devised and directed by Stewart Shuster and William Fred Scott. Tickets: $10.00. (A Founders’ Day Weekend Event.)

August 12 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 6. The New Legacy Swing Band, made up of Maine and New Hampshire musicians, was a huge hit in Ocean Park four years ago. This 15-piece big band (once known as the Little Swing Band) plays all the golden oldies, from Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman and Woody Herman up through the more modern sounds of Stan Kenton, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. It wouldn’t be surprising to find some enterprising couples dancing the jitterbug in the Temple aisles before the evening is over. Tickets: $10.00.

August 19 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 7. When Hot Soup made their first appearance at Ocean Park three years ago, these three Maryland women had the audience in the palms of their hands. Performing all original and refreshing music, and accompanying themselves on several different kinds of instruments, it was obvious from the start that Hot Soup was a hot trio. (In Maryland, Hot Soup has a great reputation for performing for children, so the Ocean Park Association is pleased to present the group in a special free performance for young people on Saturday, August 18.) Tickets: $10.00.

August 26 - 7:30 pm The Ocean Park Music Festival in the Temple. Concert 8. The Blue Hill Brass Quintet has got to be one of the finest, most original and most energetic brass ensembles in New England. Appearing on the Temple stage two years ago, they made it clear from the git-go that they would be returning soon, such was the audience reaction to their banter, their programming and their musicianship. The five members of the ensemble reside in scattered parts of Maine. They’ve been together for over 20 years, and their programs resound with classic brass quintet works and stellar arrangements of concert band and orchestral pieces.Tickets: $10.00.
