Religion and Spirituality

Ocean Park was founded in 1881 by Free Will Baptist leaders as an inter-denominational summer assembly. In that same year, with volunteer labor, these founders built a beautiful auditorium and named it the Temple. This magnificent building, now on the Register of Historical Places, has for all these years, served as the heart of the community, hosting Sunday morning worship services, concerts, lectures, plays, and a variety of other events.

For many, the Sunday service is the highlight of the week. Glorious music provided by the Temple Choir, the Bell Choir and the Temple Brass, great singing by the congregation, and thoughtful, inspiring sermons by guest speake from a variety of denominations combine to make these services uniquely inspirational events.

This summer's series begins on Sunday, June 24 and continues each week through Sunday, September 2nd. Eleven outstanding preachers will be our guests, each with a message that will engage your mind and warm your heart.

Sunday School is offered every Sunday from 9:45 to 11:15 am in Jordan Hall during Temple services. Children from kindergarten through grade 6 are welcome to attend and should be brought to Jordan Hall between 9:45 and 10:00 am. Infant care is also provided in Jordan Hall during services.

Services begin at 10 am in the Temple and are followed by Fellowship Time with coffee and punch in the Grove between Porter Hall and the Temple. The Temple is also open weekday mornings for meditation and observation. More detail is available in the Annual Program & Business Directory available at the Association Offices.

Vespers are held in the Grove between the Temple and Porter Hall each Sunday at 5 pm.
