Shuffleboard

Image: C JackmanStop by the Shuffleboard Courts at the corner of West Grand and Randall Avenues for an Ocean Park tradition or play one of our new games.  Family fun for all ages. Last year we had 4,000 players! Come and play! (Find us on Facebook!) We offer Shuffleboard and Corn Hole Games. Try our new "50/50" for great local prizes. Courts are available for hourly rentals for tournaments or family occasions.

The Shuffleboard Courts are under the management of Cameron Jackman, a resident of Saco, Maine and a 5th generation Ocean Parker. He graduated from Thomas College in Waterville with a BS in Sports Management.

Assistant Shuffleboard Manager is Jesse Grace. He is a lifelong Ocean Parker whose extended family have been involved in Ocean Park for five generations. He is currently studying Music Theory at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Season:  The courts open June 23 through September 2. Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 am-9:00 pm, and Sunday, noon-9:00 pm through August 26. Thereafter, through September 2, closing times will vary. For complete schedules and fees, drop by the courts for a visit.

An Open Family Fun Tournament is held on Thursday mornings at 9:00 am starting June 28 until August 23. Please arrive 15 minutes in advance to ensure prompt starting times. Great new winners prizes.

Image: Zumba classLet's Move Zumba
Drop in for Zumba classes every Monday/Wednesday/ Friday from June 25 through August 31 from 9:00-10:00 am. Zumba is an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow Latin-inspired calorie burning dance fitness-party taught by Nancy Greenblatt, a licensed Zumba instructor.  Come to one or all sessions.  All classes are held at the Rec Hall with the exception of July 11 and August 8 which will be held at Jordan Hall.  No class on July 4. Cost: $5.00 per session. 

 

Yoga Fitness Class
This year's new fitness class is Yoga every Tuesday at the Rec Hall from 9:00-10:00 am starting June 26 through August 28.  Susan Giarolo will lead the yoga session featuring Kripalu, a yoga practice with a compassionate approach. The emphasis is on meditation, physical healing, and spiritual transformation that overflows from the yoga mat into daily life. Cost: $5.00 per session

Healthy You Series
Image: J HarriganJoe Harrigan is a life-long martial artist who teaches an Evidence-Based Taiji (Tai Chi) and Qigong program developed by Dr. Yang Yang. Qigong practice encompasses the Taiji form, Qigong exercises, standing/sitting/lying down meditations and partner training. During the hour-long class all aspects of the practice will be touched on. And you will take-away some simple, yet profound, movements you can immediately use to get the benefit of this centuries old practice that the Harvard Medical School says, "This gentle form of exercise can prevent or ease many ills of aging and could be the perfect activity for the rest of your life." Classes will be held every Thursday morning at the Rec Hall from June 28 through August 23, 9:00-10:00 am. Cost: $5.00 per session.

 

Biking and Walking in Ocean Park
There are a number of good biking routes and hiking trails in Ocean Park and the surrounding area. Guild Park, a 10 acre old-growth white pine and spruce grove off Temple Avenue between Free Street and the railroad tracks, has marked walking trails. Other trails are in the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, a trail head in the Oceanwood Camp at the end of Royal Street. Fairy Garden

July 5, from 10:00 am-Noon
The Fairy Garden is located across from Jordan Hall on Temple Avenue. It consists of miniature houses for the fairies, built of all natural materials. The garden is open to builders and visitors all summer. On July 5, 10:00 am-noon, everyone is invited to join in building fairy houses. Wear your fairy wings and come to the party!

S'mores and More!
Drop by the beach at the end of Temple Avenue for a traditional campfire on the beach including s'mores, campfire songs, guitar players and silly skits.  Great for the whole family!   Bring your beach blanket or chair and we'll bring everything else!  Tuesdays, July 3, July 17, and 31, 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Hosted jointly with Oceanwood Camp Staff. This event is weather permitting.  In the event of rain, event will be rescheduled.
